The Sneetches Part 1 (The Story)
Learning Centres - Students rotate through a set of learning centres. Each centre will be focused on a different learning outcome.
Centre A) Showing Text Comprehension Template A
- Discussion - In their small learning centre group students will discuss the story.
- Consensus - In their small learning centre group students will create an outline of the story.
- Expression - Students will individually write a summary of the story (50 – 100 words)
Centre B) Understanding genre specific fiction Template B
- Discussion As a group discuss - What is a Sneetch? What words, phrases or images does the author use to create these fictional characters for the reader?
- Expression - As an individual or in a pair use 250 words to create a species that does not exist. Use some of the techniques you have seen Suess use to help your reader understand what these creatures are like.
Centre C) Understanding Rhyme Schemes Template C
- Discussion As a group discuss the rhyme pattern Suess uses.
- Expression - As an individual or in a pair Write 7 lines using the same rhyme pattern and beat that Suess uses. It can be anything you want - a description of your morning, of your pet, of your sister or it can be a short little story that you’ve made up.
Centre D) Applying Comprehension Template D
- Discussion - find another children’s story from those books provided and read it.
- Expression - Draw a set of pictures, comic strip, collage or other visual representation that so comprehension of the book. You may use paper, Comic life software, pic collage, freehand other digital tools to help

Publish
Students will publish each of their four learning centre expressions.
They may use Google Docs, Google Slides or the platform of your choice. Send the digital copy, URL or link to your teacher.

Presenting
Students will present and share at least one of their learning centre expressions with the other students. Each student will have the chance to explain why they chose the expressions they did and go over the details with at least one other person.
